Gas Detection for Oil & Gas Operations

Oil and gas projects span mobile worker protection, continuous release-point detection and conditioned process sampling. Define the target gases, operating conditions and site response before selecting portable, fixed or online equipment.

Protect people across changing work areas

For personal monitoring and confined-space work, assess combustible gas (often methane as %LEL), hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), carbon monoxide (CO) and oxygen (O₂) against the site hazard assessment. Specify which gases must be measured simultaneously and whether diffusion or remote sampling is required.

For defined process areas and release points, fixed detectors or online monitoring systems can provide continuous visibility and connect measurements with the site response plan.

Target review: combustible gas · H₂S · CO · O₂

Match detection to the process

Natural-gas processing, pipelines, inerting and sample-conditioning duties involve different gases, ranges and sample conditions. Give the technical team the process temperature, moisture and particulate load where extracted measurement is needed.

Review power, signal, installation conditions and project-document requirements against the selected instrument configuration.

Selection input: gas · range · sampling route · site conditions

Build a connected monitoring response

A complete fixed or online project may bring together detection, sample handling, signal transmission and alarm control. Planning these elements together supports clearer installation, commissioning and long-term operation.

Integration review: detector signal · alarm control · site response
